Ireland Under 16 Girls Hockey squad set to play USA Under 17 Girls in a three game series

Excitement is building for the Ireland Under 16 girl’s hockey squad as they get set to take on the visiting USA Under 17 team in a series of test matches being held over the Easter weekend, from Thursday 13th to Sunday 16th April. For the Irish team it will be their first opportunity this season to play a strong international team in preparation for the European six nations tournament, which takes place in July 2017. The American Ladies team is currently ranked sixth in the world.

A welcoming reception for the teams, sponsors and media will be held following the first game in St Andrew’s College, Booterstown on Thursday 13th. Both teams will then travel to Áras an Uachtaráin to meet President Michael D. Higgins on Easter Monday 17th April.

The Ireland U16 versus USA U17 fixture dates:

  • Thursday 13th April – St Andrew’s College, Booterstown, Co. Dublin at 3pm
  • Followed by the Welcoming Reception at 4.30pm
  • Friday 14th April – St Andrew’s College, Booterstown, Co. Dublin at 3pm
  • Sunday 16th April – St Gerards School, Bray, Co. Wicklow at 3pm

Irish coach Alison McNeil commented; “We are very excited about the USA coming to play against Ireland.  This is a great opportunity for our young squad to compete in their first series of international matches.  We are looking forward to seeing them perform against an Under 17 USA squad. This experience will be beneficial in our development as we prepare for our Six-Nation tournament in Barcelona in July. We will be playing against five other EU countries including Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, England and Spain ”
