Designer Deborah Veale; “It is so wonderful to have so many talented Irish designers coming together to help such an incredible cause. We are most grateful to all our event partners without whom this event wouldn’t be possible. Dementia touches the lives of so many, and it is our responsibility to support those people caring for the ones we love.”

“We are delighted to sponsor The Irish Fashion Collective 2017 at Conrad Dublin this October.  Our recently transformed 5* hotel is the perfect backdrop to showcase the amazing Irish Designers and we are happy to support Saint Joseph’s Shankill’s on it’s way to creating Ireland’s first Dementia village” said Martin Mangan, General Manager Conrad Dublin.

Siobhan Grant, Fundraising Manager, Saint Joseph’s Shankill; “We are so grateful that Deborah has reached out to her peers to once again stage this amazing show. The event raises vital funds and awareness about the home we provide and the care we give at Saint Joseph’s Shankill. It gives us a platform to inform people about the devastating illness of dementia, and how it affects so many people in Ireland now. With the continued generosity and support of the Irish Fashion Collective team we can realize our vision of providing excellence in dementia care in Ireland in homes where people know they really matter.”

Saint Joseph’s Shankill is the only care home in Ireland that solely cares for people living with dementia. The centre aspires to demonstrating excellence in how people with this very difficult illness are cared for and looked after. It is home for 58 people who live in six lodges with others at the same stage of dementia. They are cared for together in a ‘homelike’ environment where the focus is on people’s emotions and making them feel like they really matter, despite living with a diagnosis of dementia.

Saint Joseph’s also offers respite care, or little holidays as they are better known, so that families can enjoy a break when needed. The day care facility looks after 20-25 people living with dementia every day.

There are 55,000 people living with dementia in Ireland and every day 11 people are diagnosed. By 2040 this number will triple. Dementia is indiscriminate in its onset it affects people from every walk of life and every background. St Joseph’s goal is to try and ensure the best possible care today and long into the future. All proceeds raised will go directly to impact the lives of the people living with dementia that are cared for at Saint Joseph’s Shankill.
